Featherston community strengthened with new water tanks

South Wairarapa District Council is pleased to announce the installation of two 25,000 litre water tanks at ANZAC Hall in Featherston in July.

“These tanks add huge strength the resiliency of the Featherston community,” says Stefan Corbett, Group Manager, Corporate Services.

“Featherston‘s water supply comes from Greytown, across the Tauwharenīkau River and while there are plans in place to ensure continued supply, if a disruption happened in an emergency, we are now able to ensure there is a strong supply of water at Featherston’s Community Emergency Hub (CEH) at ANZAC Hall,” says Corbett.

The water tanks and a newly installed generator both add to the ability for the community to come together to look after themselves with significantly strengthened infrastructure at the emergency hub.

“Community Emergency Hubs are a place for the community to gather, where people can problem solve with each other in cases of unexpected emergency events,” says Corbett.

“If an emergency happens and you’re not sure what to do or where to go, the Community Emergency Hubs around the Wairarapa and Wellington regions are a great place to go.”
