To help address the flooding issue on SH2 in Featherston (the intersection of Fitzherbert and Daniell Streets), the NZTA via the Wellington Transport Alliance (their highway maintenance supplier) has planned work to replace the stormwater culvert under SH2 between the Railway crossing and Daniell Street. This work will help mitigate flooding known locally at “Lake Super Value” and with NZTA delivering and funding majority of the work, it will come at a minor cost to Council.
The work was originally scheduled to take place in conjunction with the recent KiwiRail Level Crossing upgrade, however, further investigation by NZTA found this to be unfeasible so the work will now be completed independently.
NZTA is committed to getting started as soon as possible. They are awaiting approval from KiwiRail to work adjacent to the railway corridor and confirm the resources necessary, and once this approval is gained, a date will be confirmed.
SWDC is keeping in close contact with the agencies involved and we look forward to sharing more information when timeframes are confirmed.
