Maintenance work is currently being carried out by Wellington Water on one of the four Martinborough reservoirs. Due to general wear and tear, this work will ensure our drinking water stays healthy and safe, making sure our community is prepared and resilient in the event of power cuts, storms or a major earthquake. The new lining will improve protection against contamination.
This is a complex project, with the 920,000 litre reservoir being emptied and a 100 tonne crane used to lift the roof. From there, they installed a new liner that reinforces the exterior wall before putting the roof back on and beginning the process to fill the reservoir back up.
This work will be completed in approximately four weeks, with the next steps including chlorination and testing of the water to ensure it’s safe to drink. Once this is done, the reservoir can be filled. Our other three Martinborough reservoirs have been providing our drinking water while this work is carried out.
