South Wairarapa towns are getting ready to welcome “Pack the Bus” for the first year, following its success in Masterton last year. The district’s first event will be in Martinborough Square on Friday 6 December, 11.30am-2pm, and it promises to pack a few surprises!
SWDC encourages local businesses and individuals to come along and donate Christmas gifts and non-perishable food items, for distribution by the region’s Food Banks to those in need.
South Wairarapa Mayor Alex Beijen recognises that it’s a difficult time of year for some.
“Christmas is a wonderful time but it can be a stressful, particularly for those feeling financial pressure.
“Our Council is delighted to be involved in growing this initiative to become Wairarapa-wide, encouraging locals to give what they can to those in need. I know we have a generous community here who will want to help us pack the bus,” says Mr Beijen.
Pack the Bus Wairarapa is an initiative between Tranzit Coachlines, Masterton District Council, Carterton District Council, South Wairarapa District Council, Mitre 10 MEGA, Property Brokers Wairarapa and proudly supported by Wairarapa’s The Edge.
The Property Broker’s Park up in Martinborough is being kindly supported P&K Martinborough Mitre 10 and the Martinborough Business Association.
For those who cannot drop-off in Martinborough, there are further park-up events at the supermarkets in Featherston, on Monday 9 December, and Greytown, on Tuesday 10 December. There are also collection points in Martinborough at Council offices, the i-SITE Waihinga Centre and Kitchener’s Café, until the campaign ends on Tuesday 10 December.
See the full list of park-up events on South Wairarapa District Council’s Facebook page. Come along and spread the Christmas cheer!
