Update, 22 June: The plant is now fully repaired, lessening the urgent need to conserve water.
14 June 2022
Over the weekend, the Waiohine Water Treatment plant was struck by lightening. The lightening strike damaged a number of electrical components, and the plant has been temporarily shutdown.
We want to assure residents that water supplied to the Featherston and Greytown communities from the treated water reservoir, is safe to drink.
Wellington Water is currently going through all of the electrical equipment to assess the scale of damage and work out the best plan for repairs.
Water storage levels in the treated water reservoir are currently stable. However, while the crews investigate and work to repair the water treatment plant, they (and the Council) would like to ask residents to please conserve water where you can.
We all want to avoid draining the reservoir before the plant is back up and running.
