Press Release
Greater Wellington Region Council Rates Error
29 July 2016
South Wairarapa District Council (SWDC) has identified a minor computer error where rates calculated and collected on behalf of the Greater Wellington Region were incorrect; rates affected are the urban transport rate and the business Wellington Regional Strategy rate.
Rates notices that are due on 22 August 2016 are incorrect. All affected rate payers will be contacted and issued a new rates notice next week. The difference to be paid will be spread over the next four quarters.
Acting SWDC CEO, Mark Allingham said everything has been done to remedy the situation.
“As soon as we identified the error, we corrected the issue, and are now contacting all the affected rate payers to explain the situation and how future payments will be spread to reflect the shortfall in the Greater Wellington rates.”
“Anyone who pays by direct debit will be automatically corrected, ratepayers who pay by automatic payment will need to change their amount paid through their bank and for those ratepayers who pay by cash or cheque, will need to pay the amount on their new invoice.”
“There are no changes to the South Wairarapa rates, only the Greater Wellington Region rates need to be adjusted. We’ve put a process in place to make sure that we prevent future inconveniences.”
“I apologise to our rate payers, and ask anyone who needs help or has questions to call us on 06 306 9611.
