The flushing of Martinborough’s town water network was successfully completed over the weekend. Council and Regional Public Health met this afternoon to discuss the final steps required to remove the boil water notice.
The water samples taken after the flush on Sunday count as day one of “three clear days of testing”. These results will be available tomorrow. If results continue to stay ontrack, it is anticipated the boil water notice will be lifted on Wednesday evening/Thursday.
Infrastructure and Services Manager Mark Allingham says, “all indications so far are that we’re ontrack for a Wednesday or Thursday lifting of the boil water notice. This is really pleasing and the result of a huge effort by a number of people – staff and contractors, Wellington Water and Regional Public Health.
“Thank you to the businesses and residents for their ongoing understanding and patience during this time,” say Mr Allingham.
Thorough testing of the UV disinfection unit shows it is working to the manufacturer’s specifications, alleviating any concerns that there will be a repeat of the past malfunction.
The boil water notice remains in place until Council notifies it has been lifted.
Routine sampling and testing will continue, to provide confidence that the water is safe to drink. Council will also be undertaking a full review of the event.
