As advertised, flushing of the town water network began this morning, in the Green Zone.
The work is taking longer than expected as we experienced some issues with valves not behaving as they should have earlier in the day.
The estimated time for the water to be back on in the Green zone is 5/6pm tonight – to be confirmed on the website and on Facebook. We apologise to those households inconvenienced by this delay.
On the plus side, the process is proving, so far, to be effective in removing the biofilm and manganese sediment. Heavily discoloured water has been released from the hydrants. Freshwater is now being flushed through.
If you experience discoloured water, once the water is back on, please flush a cold tap (preferably an outside tap) until it runs clear before use.
Low water pressure in the Huangarua Rd area
Properties in the Huangarua Rd area (Purple Zone), next to the Green Zone, may have experienced some low water pressure and discoloured water while today’s flush was taking place.
This was because the area was receiving an alternative water supply from a smaller pipe than normal. Pressure should be back to normal now; if not, it will be soon.
