Councillors met on 27 October 2021 to discuss possible options on reducing the cost of the 2021-22 rates for ratepayers.
They have settled on a preferred position for discussion with the community at the three public meetings planned for early November. See the meeting to understand their thinking on our YouTube channel.
Four options were considered:
- Keeping the status quo;
- Cutting costs and levels of service by amending the LTP and resetting the rates;
- Reducing costs that don’t significantly cut levels of service and resetting the rates; or
- Reducing costs that don’t significantly cut levels of service and carrying over savings to the next financial year.
The majority of councillors preferred the last option, which was to work towards reducing costs that did not significantly reduce services and to carry over the savings.
