Release of additional budget data
17 November 2021
During the 2021/22 rates meetings with South Wairarapa District ratepayers, a number of residents asked for a more detailed budget and a list of key projects. This is an unusual step for any council to take, to release detailed budgets. We also couldn’t do this without checking a few things, such as the risk of inadvertently releasing commercially sensitive information. However, having done our checks, we have prepared information that can be released.
Additional budget and project information is now available from the Council’s website. The information provided builds on what is available in the 2021-31 Long Term Plan.
It is not at a detailed granular level as this has the danger of identifying:
- Contractual information, which is commercially sensitive,
- Operational information that could identify roles and therefore individuals, which would impact NZ employment laws.
It should help with understanding the big-ticket items and how they’re funded as well as the budget allocated to key areas of operational responsibility.
Note: The information shared is within the LGNZ Act 2002 guidelines and, specifically, the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, therefore no further details will be released that breach our legal obligations. Reasons for withholding this information are covered under Section 7(2)(b) and Section 7(2)(h) to protect the information and allow us to carry out commercial activity negotiations without prejudice or disadvantage.
