Tauherenikau pipeline progress

4 April 2022

Urgent work starts this week on the Tauherenikau water pipe between Featherston and Greytown.

This vital infrastructure supplies Featherston’s drinking water from the Waiohine treated water plant near Greytown. Erosion has exposed a section of the pipe where it crosses the Tauherenikau River, and the river bed supporting it underneath.

Contingency plans are in place to minimise the risk that the water supply to Featherston is interrupted during this repair.

These plans include making sure the local water supply reservoir at Boar Bush is back into service following critical maintenance works that have been undertaken.

The work on the pipeline is a shorter term repair which will give Featherston residents more security while a more permanent solution is explored by the Council and Wellington Water.
