Update: Featherston Boil Notice

18 February 2022

A boil notice issued last weekend after heavy flooding means currently, all drinking water must be boiled in Featherston.

Wellington Water has been working to prepare the new Waiohine Water Treatment Plant Reservoir to flush the Featherston water network of any contamination.

To bring the reservoir online ahead of schedule, the team has needed to introduce new processes and systems, and has had to do this carefully.

This means they have not been able to complete the flushing process planned on Friday.

It is anticipated that Wellington Water will be able to flush the system early next week, however, it will know more once the reservoir is online.

Unfortunately, this is likely to extend the boil water notice until later next week.

When the flushing process is completed, the team will take water samples for testing to make sure it is safe to drink. The network will be checked for at least three days to ensure the system is clear.

On Thursday Wellington Water delivered 450 1.5 litre bottles of drinking water to Featherston Library, which are available for residents if needed.

They also delivered 480 1.5 litre bottles each to Featherston School and St. Teresa’s School.

Wellington Water appreciates your patience while it fixes this issue.
