Update on Martinborough town water network flushing – Day Three

4:50pm, 8 May 2019

Flushing is running behind schedule today due to a combination of things. The amount of biofilm and sediment being flushed out is good to see as it shows the process is working, but it’s extending the flushing time. We have to wait for the water to run clear before tobies can be turned back on to properties.

The team is prioritising the business area as there are restaurants that want to open for the evening. Everything possible is being done to give restaurants back their water by the 6pm deadline, or as close to it.

Kansas St from Strasbourge to the Square, and Strasbourge from Kansas St to Cambridge Rd will not be flushed today.  This area will be done at the end of the town’s flushing programme. Residents will be advised on the new dates and times.

Today has not been without some issues. Every effort has been made to isolate the areas of the network, as advertised, while air scouring and water flushing is taking place. We are aware of some situations where things have not gone to plan and areas were unable to be flushed for some properties.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience the town flushing is causing. The work is necessary to lift the boil water notice and return safe drinking water to the town. With each day, we are getting closer to that goal. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation during this challenging time.
