Youth Advisory Group – South Wairarapa

Passionate about making young people’s voices heard?  

The South Wairarapa District Council want to hear from rangatahi / youth who would like to be involved in a South Wairarapa Youth Advisory Group. 

What is the South Wairarapa Youth Advisory Group? 

If you are between 11-24 years of age and passionate about making youth voices in the South Wairarapa heard, then this is the group for you. The primary purpose of a South Wairarapa Youth Advisory Group will be to help shape what “YOUTH VOICE” looks like in the South Wairarapa.  

Some of the key activities may include: 

  • supporting rangatahi / youth to be involved in things that matter to them; 
  • assisting and advising our Council / Community Boards on how to grow great places and communities where young people thrive and contribute to making the South Wairarapa a great place to live 
  • helping Council gain insight into youth experience and how youth perspective can contribute to finding solutions to problems of a changing world 

What are some things that Youth Advisory Group members will do? 

  • Create opportunities for rangatahi / youth to come together, connect, celebrate and support one another 
  • Advise and assist our Council / Commmunity Boards on how to foster places and communities that supports young people to thrive, feel connected and contribute to the South Wairarapa 
  • Provide a youth perspective and insight into what matters to youth in our community and in a changing world. 
  • Support our members to grow their professional, personal, and leadership abilities. 
  • Connect members with key players and champions within our community. 
  • Work with other youth groups to support youth in the Wairarapa.  

What does the Youth Advisory Group offer? 

  • Personal and professional development opportunities. 
  • Opportunity to work with other youth and support our communities. 
  • Regular (fortnightly or monthly) catch ups, hang outs, and making events happen 
  • Snacks, lots of snacks
