News: Snow, high winds and heavy swells forecast

MetService has advised that 1-2cm of snow is expected on the Remutaka Hill Road between 9am and 3pm on Thursday 21 July. Wellington Transport Alliance has advised that it will have a crew on site but may need to close the road temporarily if the snowfall is heavy.

A high wind warning is also in place for the Wairarapa between 1pm and 10pm on Thursday. Severe gales are forecast in exposed places, with gusts reaching 120 km/h. Bouts of heavy rain are expected from 7am to 7pm south of Featherston.

There’s also a heavy swell warning from Turakirae Head to Cape Palliser between 1pm Thursday to 6am Friday. Southerly combined waves are expected to rise to 7 metres by late Thursday afternoon, easing to 5 metres early Friday morning.
