A by-election is being held to fill the extraordinary vacancy on the Greytown Community Board. The vacancy has arisen due to insufficient nominations received during the recent local body elections in October 2022 to fill the four vacancies on the Board.
We now seek one more person to complete the Board. Community boards serve as a voice for their Ward, to inform the Council on local issues of importance, and administer community grants.
Board members serve a three-year term with meetings held on a weeknight every six weeks.
Nominations for candidates opened on Thursday 24 November 2022 and close sharply at 12 noon, on Thursday 22 December 2022.
Nominees must be a New Zealand citizen, 18 years of age or older, enrolled on the Parliamentary roll and backed by two electors from the Greytown Ward.
If only one person is nominated, they will be appointed, and the by-election will not be necessary. If there are two or more candidates, a three-week postal election will be held from Thursday 26 January 2023.
A preliminary announcement of the successful candidate will be made as soon as possible after the close off date, with an official declaration on 22 February 2023.
A candidate handbook, including information on candidate eligibility and a description of the role, can be obtained from Council or the Electoral Officer.
