Since being closed following a significant slip in 2022, works on the remediation of Hinekura Road are well under way and in the steady hands of Brownell Earthmoving Limited (Brownell) and their contracting partners under the guidance of Ruamahanga Roads.

With a budget of $785,363, preliminary works on the site have been completed – beginning with a rough alignment for a pilot track, environmental controls, and with tree felling to provide access to good fill material. This material has been used to build up the new road alignment.

The bulk earthworks are almost complete, with drainage and re-contouring to follow. Works on the road pavement will then be done.

This stage of the works are anticipated to be completed in March. The final alignment will be suitable for heavy traffic and to a horizontal alignment consistent with the adjacent sections of Hinekura Road. The surface will remain unsealed until there is a degree of satisfaction ongoing movement is minimal.

We continue to remind both residents and public that the section of road is still closed to all traffic. Please respect this and allow the contractors to proceed diligently, efficiently and safely.
