Roadworks: Chipseal SH53 Backwater Road to southern end of Waihenga Bridge
When: Wednesday 25 October, weather permitting.
UPDATE – scheduled for 31 October
Please be prepared for a short wait during chipsealing works on State Highway 53 from Backwater Road to the southern end of Waihenga Bridge during the morning of Wednesday 25 October.
Traffic will be managed with stop/go controls.
The longest wait will be when the deck of the bridge is sealed which could take about 10 minutes. Traffic at both ends will be held until the bitumen-spraying truck and chip spreading truck have completed their runs.
A temporary speed restriction of 30km/h will be in place throughout the works and for some time afterwards. This slower speed helps protect your car and others from loose chip. The temporary speed limit will rise as traffic helps settle the chip into the new seal on the road surface.
Wellington Transport Alliance thanks road users for their patience while the work to improve the surface of the highway is underway.
